1/19/14 BIBLE PASSAGE (Joshua 7,8,9)
Some secret sins of a single man caused his nation to suffer terrible defeat from their enemies. Ai City (which was smaller) flatly defeated Israel, and God refused to rescue them because Achan sinned. God insisted that Israelites must remove the sin that existed within their camp before he could defend them again. God said to Joshua, “Get up! Why do you lie thus on your face? Israel has sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them. For they have even taken some of the accursed things, and have both stolen and deceived; and they have also put it among their own stuff. Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they have become doomed to destruction. Neither will I be with you anymore, unless you destroy the accursed from among you. ” (Joshua 7:10-12)
The Children of God must please God with holiness before they can enjoy his full protection. We cannot continue to live in sin and expect his grace to abide with us. The principle of God is ever the same and it is simple: He will relate with us when we confess and forsake our sinful habits, but he would keep us at distance if we continue to live in sin. We cannot trick God to bless us; he would still not appreciate us if dress beautifully and present large offerings in church – unless we repent from our sins.
Dear God, please do not let me sin against you, so that enemies would not have upper hands over me. If I commit error, help me to humble myself and repent so that I can receive your forgiveness. Please protect me against the attacks of the enemies, and let me enjoy all your benefits throughout the days of my life. For in the name of Jesus Christ I make my requests. Amen.
