12/25/13 BIBLE PASSAGE (Luke 3)
John Baptist declared to his audience that he was not their Messiah, but he was the messenger of their Messiah. John said, “I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather the wheat into His barn; but the chaff He will burn with unquenchable fire” (Luke 3:16-17).
John baptized people with water, but Jesus baptized people with fire of the Holy Spirit. However, the baptism of water and fire are important to all believers. Water baptism signifies physical affirmation that we have become children of God, and the Holy Spirit baptism signifies spiritual affirmation that we have been confirmed to live with God in heaven. Hence, all Christians must partake in both Water and Holy Spirit baptisms. We must seek the face of God through fasting and prayers to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
I have become a child of God through faith in Jesus Christ, therefore I ask my heavenly Father to endow his Holy Spirit upon me. I request for the spirit God to empower me to do his will so that I can prosper in this world and in heaven also. For in the name of Jesus Christ I make my requests. Amen.
