12/31/13 BIBLE PASSAGE (Luke 5:1-16)
Jesus Christ borrowed Peter’s boat to preach gospel, and he made him rich afterward. Peter who had suffered scotching sun and terrible sea waves without catching a fish suddenly became rich after he had an encounter with Jesus. The Messiah commanded him to launch his net into the sea to catch fish. Peter was initially reluctant, but he later obeyed, and his action brought him unexpected result. The scenario is reported in the scripture, Peter said, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at your word I will let down the net. And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking. So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink” (Luke 5:5-7).
God often speaks to his children for specific reasons; some people listen, but some others do not. The people with nonchalant attitude miss their opportunity to be blessed when they turn deaf ears to God. Hence, all Christians are expected to train their minds to respond to God’s instructions, so that they can be blessed. We must not hesitate to obey God when he sends us on errand and/or he commands us for specific instructions. God will forever blesses obedient children, but he will suspend blessings for a disobedient child, and he will punish him or her.
Dear God, please help me to duly follow all your instructions. Enable me to fear you, and do not let me take you for granted. Let me work in your plans so that I can prosper in the land of the living. For in the name of Jesus Christ I make my requests. Amen.
