1/8/14 BIBLE PASSAGE (Luke 7:1-30)
Jesus Christ had compassion on a widow who lost her only child, and he commanded the child to come back to life. The scripture reported the incident, “And when He (Jesus) came near the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her. When the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.” Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” So he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And He presented him to his mother” (Luke 7:12-15).
The mode of Jesus’ miracles is crystal clear. They were performed to motivate people to believe in God’s power. Meanwhile, the miracles of Jesus are mostly demonstrated to express his compassion on the needy. For example, he multiplied few breads and fishes to feed thousands of people because he had compassion on them. He also raised a dead man to life because he had compassion on his mother (Luke 7:12-15). Therefore, all Christians should understand that true Christianity would be best demonstrated when we have compassion on other people. We must endeavor to feed poor people; we must cloth naked people, and we must pray for people that we may not physically reach. Once we satisfy God, the light of gospel will spread – even beyond our regions – and many people will be converted into Christianity.
Dear Jesus Christ, please empower me to have compassion for needy people. Let me express my faith in you by loving other people. Let me be a channel of blessing to people throughout the world, so that your name can be praised. For in the name of Jesus Christ I make my requests. Amen.
